SilkSafar
Voice translator, photo translation, an AI guide and a map — in one Android app. Built for visitors who arrive without the language, without a local SIM card and without knowing which street the place moved to.
Free APK · Android 8.0 and newer · interface in English, Russian, Uzbek and Chinese
What makes it different
Ask a general-purpose chatbot for an address, opening hours or a price in Tashkent and it will answer confidently — and often with something that does not exist. Our guide has to look the answer up first: in our own curated database of places, on the map, in the exchange-rate feed. When the data has no answer, it says so instead of making one up. For someone standing on a street in a foreign country, that is the difference between arriving and losing an hour and a taxi fare.
Find a place by name, look up what is nearby, read the curated description of a landmark, check the weather, the official exchange rate, emergency numbers, the traveller's own location and their saved places. Names are matched across Cyrillic and Latin spellings, so "Chorsu", "Чорсу" and "Chorsu Bozori" all find the same market.
Show the place on the map, build a walking or driving route to it, and open a taxi to its exact coordinates. The guide does not just describe the destination — it puts you on the way there.
Every answer about a specific place starts with a lookup, not with a memory.
Everything in one app
A live two-way conversation with about a second of delay. Hand the phone to a taxi driver and keep talking.
Point the camera at a menu or a sign. Latin script is read on the device; Cyrillic goes through AI.
Language packs are downloaded once and then work with the network switched off entirely.
Answers only after checking its data, and can act: show, route, call a taxi.
ATMs, cafés, restaurants, hotels and pharmacies, walking and driving routes, your own saved places.
Car rental, tickets and SIM cards — partner listings managed from our side, no app update needed.
Weather for where you are standing, the central-bank rate with a two-way calculator.
Local emergency numbers and the practical information a foreigner needs to have at hand.
Where other apps stop
The first hours in the country happen without a local SIM card, roaming is expensive enough that most visitors simply switch data off, and coverage is thin in the Old City and between towns — which is exactly where a menu, a sign or a driver needs translating.

Try it
The app is distributed as a direct APK while it is in testing. It is not on Google Play yet, so Android will ask for a one-time permission before installing.
